Arup Baidya

"Former India Top 10 In Men’s Singles 6 Times West Bengal State Champion In Men’s Singles "

Having represented India internationally, Arup was a prominent presence in the national badminton map. As he earned laurels as a player, Indian Railways recruited him as an employee, and he also brought glory to them as a player.

At the age of 30 (2010), when he was still at the peak of his powers as a player, Arup was already looking to groom the next big badminton talent from West Bengal. He took his first steps towards coaching, training 6 young children on the cemented courts at a local club in his neighborhood. Given his reputation, it did not take long for this number to go up exponentially in the next few months. Arup realized that after he hung up his racquet, this was the path forward for him.

Arup wants to take the game of Badminton to the grassroots in his state. By this time, he has moved to coaching in multiple facilities across Kolkata under the flag of Arup Baidya Badminton Academy (ABBA) and having close to 500 students under his tutelage. Young badminton players of all ages from Kolkata and even surrounding areas like Jalpaiguri, Raigunj, Behrampore etc. want to be coached by a player, who has seen success at international level. Many of his students have attained state and national glory over the years.

To take his students to the next level, Arup is now working towards establishing his own academy campus where he can train all his students under one roof, with state-of-art infrastructure and facilities, which are of utmost importance for success in modern day sports.
